(la sensualité d'une épine !)
November 8, 2026-December 19, 2026

IRAGUI Gallery is pleased to present (la sensualité d’une épine !), a solo exhibition by Carlos Noronha Feio. The exhibition brings together a series of text pieces created specifically for the show, alongside two recent textile installations. The project also incorporates a fragment of Noronha Feio’s Arborescence, a recent commission by the Arpad Szenes–Vieira da Silva Museum in Lisbon, reimagined for the gallery space.

Creating layered narratives that demand rigorous reading is integral to Noronha Feio’s artistic strategy. His works often offer hints that may both guide and distort the viewer’s interpretation, with his text pieces playing a major role in this process. Made of mirror-polished, gold-coloured stainless steel, they appear on gallery walls and in public spaces as enigmatic, seemingly incomplete poetic phrases. At Iragui Gallery, five such works enter into dialogue with the textile installations, including (invasif !), (la vision des plantes !) and (la sensualité d’une épine !), the latter lending its title to the exhibition. Always enclosed in brackets, these short texts become “footnotes” to their surroundings, inviting viewers to question their own circumstances and the apparent stability of established meanings.

A text by Katya Savchenko, curator and art writer.

Carlos Noronha Feio (b. 1981) lives and works in Oeiras. Through his multidisciplinary practice, he explores themes such as identity, nationalism, and local and global cultures. His work challenges preconceived notions of belonging by incorporating historical, geographical, and political references, which he juxtaposes to create his own compositions.

Carlos Noronha Feio holds a PhD from the Royal College of Art in London. Selected exhibitions and projects include: Sharjah Biennial 17 (what remains sits restive), Sharjah (2027); (la sensualité d'une épine !), IRAGUI Gallery, Paris (2026); (heling !), Kunstfort, the Netherlands (2025–2026); Arborescências, Vieira da Silva–Arpad Szenes Museum, Lisbon (2026); Arkipélg, CNAD, Cape Verde (2024); Milk & Honey, 3+1 Arte Contemporânea, Lisbon (2024); (sunsight !)/(sunclipse !), Kunstverein am Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz, Berlin (2022); A Matter of Trust, Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow (2017); and Oikonomia: A Matter of Trust, MNAC – National Museum of Contemporary Art of Chiado, Lisbon (2015).
