Viktor Pivovarov and Pavel Pepperstein joint exhibition in Prague

Viktor Pivovarov and his son Pavel Pepperstein are exhibiting together for the first time at Prague’s DSC Gallery. The show, titled Bílá zrcadla / White Mirrors, features Pivovarov’s new series of black and white paintings as well as Pepperstein’s drawings from the 1980s, curated by Pivovarov’s daughter Máša Černá Pivovarová.

The series White Mirrors, completed by Viktor Pivovarov last year, explores similar themes to his earlier works, often featuring figural motifs complemented by geometric abstraction. According to the artist, he is always trying to find something new and had never done black-and-white paintings before. The paintings depict both serious and humorous situations, with a subtle touch of eroticism, and examine interpersonal relationships.

Pivovarov says that he always coordinates pathos or lyricism with humor to avoid the work becoming too sentimental, and that there must be a delicate balance. Pepperstein’s drawings, which depict two characters entering a mystical space and exploring Pivovarov’s paintings, pay homage to his father’s work and connect two artists. The curator explains that the drawings are from an album that Pepperstein gave his father for his birthday, and that “it is about two characters entering a kind of mystical space and going through Viktor Pivovarov’s paintings.”

The show is open every weekday from 1 pm to 6 pm at DSC Gallery on Dlouhá Street and will run until March 10th.
